Hiking in Finland

Climbing, bikepacking, skiing & packrafting in the north

The Week in Review

This week saw special attention paid towards the women here on Hiking in Finland with the "Women in the Outdoors" week. It started with an interview of Kim Coupounas from GoLite, a look at the Patagonia W's Nano Puff Pullover and the Golite Cottonwood Racerback top & Madrone Frontcountry pants, and a trip report of the Pieni Karhunkierros.

Another big news was the announcement of the Scandinavian UL Bloggers Meet-up, which will bring six bloggers from the north together for a trip in Vålådalen, Sweden. Geartalk, pristine wilderness and creating friendships will be a superb experience which I am very much looking forward to.

The most EPIC trip which I read about this week was The Southern Spiral trip, which took four friends 33 Days across Wrangell-St. Elias NP in Alaska. The photography is sublime and short captions are all you need to read. Did I already mention how awesome the photos are? Makes any of my trips look like a Kindergarden excursion. Go read it, you won't be disappointed.

Thomas from Going Lighter went hammock testing and enjoyed the beauty of spring in Norway.

Cedar & Sand was on the brink with his trusty mountain bike, and brought back the most beautiful photos of the canyons in Utah.

terrybnd is back from his Coast to Coast walk and already posted a few nice panoramas before he starts his write-up of the trip.

Roger was on a Sunday trip to visit the Säveån stream and brought back some very pretty photos of the Swedish spring.

Joe on the other hand ditched UL backpacking and went UltraHeavy Glamping with huge tents, BBQ and angling gear - but he had fun and made muffins, so that is all that counts!

The Weekend Hiker went out and tackled the Karkaghne section of the Ozark Trail, expect pretty photos and the tale of an epic battle of man vs. mountain.

Mark from Backpacking North started a blog and his first trip report is about the Sioux Hustler Trail in Minnesota - beautiful photos and a good story. And welcome to the Outdoor bloggers, Mark!

In the gear department, which is very short this week, Peter did (finally!) review the Rab Cirrus Pull-On, with 76 g in a Size L it is a unbelievable light windshirt.

Over on the Patagonia blog we have a very extensive review of winter gear which was used while skiing the Tahoe Rim Trail - good for those who want to make changes to their winter setup and look fir inspiration.

And in other news, Londonbackpacker was in Panic as he was wondering how to fit all his gear and food for the TGO into his GoLite Pinnacle - check his blog to see if he succeeded.

Fraser continues to tell what he has learned about photography so far and besides some eye candy he gives some more nerdy details on how to manipulate photos.

And Nick from Skills for Wild Lives asks "What is your favourite way to light a fire?" and gives us a good description of the methods which he likes.

That's it for this week, I hope you're able to enjoy the spring and got out for a trip!
